Creative Future: What's On?

Aimed at under-25s living in Aston, Erdington, Handsworth, Handsworth Wood, Kingstanding, Ladywood, Lozells, Nechells, Oscott, Perry Barr, Soho, Stockland Green and Tyburn, Creative Future: What’s On offers information on city-wide arts activities, career options and progression routes.
Developed by Birmingham City Council Arts and Young People’s team, the new service will help young people and parents access information on creative opportunities in the world of music, dance, drama, film and other digital media.
The project will also offer advice for those who want to explore an interest in the arts that they may have discovered while at school or a youth club, providing guidance on how to take their skills and ability to the next level.
Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, Cllr Martin Mullaney, said: “It is important that our young people are given every opportunity to develop their talents and creativity to increase their skills and confidence through the arts.
“Creative Future: What’s On will help us understand the barriers to accessing, engaging and pursuing creative activities, and offer solutions, so we can increase the numbers of young people who can benefit from the arts, and contribute to our local and citywide arts scene.”Creative Future: What’s On will generate an accurate up-to-date picture of organisations delivering cultural activities for young people in Birmingham.
The project is delivered by Frilly on behalf of Birmingham City Council’s Arts and Young People team and forms part of Creative Future II, Birmingham’s strategy for children, young people and culture.
As part of the project, we have spent time with three key partners: Nechells Green Community Centre, 610 Youth and Community Centre and Kingstanding Extended Services Cluster. Together, we have identified groups of young people and spent time working with them to develop their creative interests. Alongside our work on thr ground, we developed a blog, a twitter feed, a facebook and a flickr page to house all the information about what we've been doing to hopefully be able to engage young people who don't engage with the youth service or other agencies within those geographical areas.
